Reading your reflection, what touched me most was the idea that true transformation does not come merely from knowledge or skills, but from learning and living by fundamental principles and character. Coach Guus Hiddink transformed Korean soccer not simply by introducing new tactics, but by changing the players' mindset, discipline, responsibility, and respect for basic principles.

I believe this lesson extends far beyond sports. It applies to every part of society. Whenever individuals or organizations remain in positions of influence for a long time without continual self-examination, complacency can gradually replace humility. A sense of privilege, comfort, and resistance to change may begin to take root. Eventually, preserving one's position becomes more important than pursuing truth, growth, and service.

This pattern can be seen in politics, education, business, and many other institutions. Whenever fundamental principles are replaced by power, personal interests, or convenience, societies inevitably experience conflict and instability. Around the world we continue to witness political crises, democratic setbacks, and struggles over power. Although every country's circumstances are different, these events remind us that when people lose sight of moral principles and personal responsibility, history often repeats itself.

The Church is not exempt from this reality. Priests, religious sisters, and lay faithful are all called to continual conversion. Ordination or religious vows do not automatically make anyone spiritually mature. Rather, every vocation requires ongoing humility, self-examination, and a willingness to return to God each day. Anyone who serves for many years can gradually become comfortable or lose the freshness of their original calling if they are not constantly renewed by prayer and God's grace.

Jesus Himself reminded us that what matters most is not external authority but a humble and repentant heart. His words apply equally to everyone. Whether we are lay people, priests, or religious sisters, we are all invited to examine ourselves daily in the light of God's Word and allow Him to transform us. It is not our position that changes us, but our willingness to live according to the Gospel with sincerity and perseverance.

Ultimately, I believe the mission of priests and religious is not simply to teach Scripture, but to help people rebuild their conscience and their lives upon the eternal principles found in God's Word. No matter how advanced society becomes or how much technology progresses, if we neglect moral formation and continual self-examination, the same mistakes will inevitably be repeated. This call to renewal belongs not only to the laity but also to priests, religious sisters, and every member of the Church. 

When the Church continually renews itself according to the spirit of the Gospel, it can become a true light and source of hope for the world. Lasting change begins not with systems or technology, but with hearts that humbly return to God and faithfully live according to His truth.

글을 읽으며 가장 크게 공감한 부분은 결국 사람을 변화시키는 것은 기술이 아니라 기본 원칙과 인성을 세우는 교육이라는 점이었습니다. 히딩크 감독이 한국 축구를 변화시킨 것도 단순히 새로운 전술을 가르쳤기 때문이 아니라, 선수들의 의식과 기본 원칙, 책임감과 태도를 먼저 바꾸었기 때문이라고 생각합니다.

이러한 원리는 축구뿐 아니라 우리 사회 전체에도 그대로 적용됩니다. 어느 조직이든 오랜 시간 같은 위치에 있으면서 긴장감과 책임감이 사라지면 나태함과 안일함이 자리 잡기 쉽습니다. 시간이 지나면 특권의식과 권위주의가 생기고, 변화하려는 노력보다 기존의 지위와 관행을 지키려는 사고방식이 굳어질 수 있습니다. 결국 조직은 활력을 잃고, 그 피해는 구성원 모두에게 돌아가게 됩니다.

정치도 그렇고, 교육도 그렇고, 기업도 그렇습니다. 기본 원칙보다 권력과 이해관계가 앞서기 시작하면 사회는 갈등과 혼란을 반복하게 됩니다. 세계 여러 나라에서 민주주의가 흔들리거나 정치적 혼란과 권력 충돌이 나타나는 현상도 결국 기본 원칙과 책임의식이 약해질 때 나타나는 모습이라고 생각합니다. 인간은 시대와 장소가 달라도 기본 원칙을 잃어버리면 비슷한 실수를 반복하는 존재이기 때문입니다.

교회도 예외는 아니라고 생각합니다. 신부님과 수녀님, 그리고 평신도 모두 직분 자체가 사람을 거룩하게 만드는 것이 아니라, 하느님 앞에서 끊임없이 자신을 돌아보고 초심을 잃지 않을 때 그 소명이 더욱 빛날 수 있습니다. 누구든 오랜 시간 같은 자리에서 사명을 수행하다 보면 자신도 모르게 익숙함과 안일함에 빠질 수 있기 때문입니다. 그렇기에 더욱 겸손과 자기 성찰이 필요하다고 생각합니다.

예수님께서도 외적인 권위보다 마음의 회개와 겸손을 더 중요하게 말씀하셨습니다. 그 말씀 앞에서 자유로운 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 평신도든, 신부님이든, 수녀님이든 모두가 날마다 하느님 말씀 안에서 자신을 돌아보고 새로워져야 합니다. 직분이 사람을 변화시키는 것이 아니라, 하느님 말씀을 실천하려는 끊임없는 노력과 회개가 사람을 변화시키기 때문입니다.

결국 사제와 수도자의 역할은 단순히 성경 지식을 전달하는 데 그치는 것이 아니라, 하느님의 말씀으로 사람들의 양심과 삶의 기본 원칙을 다시 세워 주는 데 있다고 생각합니다. 사회가 아무리 발전하고 기술이 발달하더라도 이러한 교육과 자기 성찰이 없다면 같은 문제는 반복될 수밖에 없을 것입니다. 그리고 이러한 성찰은 평신도만이 아니라 신부님과 "수녀님", 교회의 모든 구성원에게도 동일하게 요구되는 과제라고 생각합니다. 

교회가 먼저 복음의 정신 안에서 끊임없이 자신을 쇄신할 때, 세상 역시 교회를 통해 희망과 방향을 발견할 수 있을 것입니다. 결국 사람이 먼저 변화되어야 사회도 변화될 수 있으며, 그 변화의 시작은 언제나 하느님의 말씀 앞에서 자신을 겸손히 돌아보는 데서 시작된다고 믿습니다.
